Anthony Shafto

Anthony came to America in 1791 with his wife and first six children. The ship launched from Newcastle, and landed in Philadelphia, 8 Jul 1791. Anthony and his family purchased a 104 acre farm near Hamilton, Monmouth, NJ. Hamilton is now part of Neptune Township, the original homestead was between the Shark River Brook and the present Corlies Avenue. An uncle Anthony Tilley in England was mentioned in letters, and probably the person for whom Anthony was named.
Anthony married Hannah Cole, daughter of William Cole and Pesser, in 1780. (Hannah Cole died on 6 Feb 1828.)
